Before you read it, I just want to let you know that this book is not a rom-com. Although many of Christina Lauren's books do have a playful vibe to them, this one is a lot more serious and deeper. It almost reminds me of Colleen Hoover's books in a way.

Ok... This is one of those books that is cute with a deeper layer of emotion beneath. Before reading this one, the only Christina Lauren book I had read was The Unhoneymooners which was a rom-com. I really enjoyed how Christina Lauren tackled this novel by keeping all of the "rom" but taking out some of the "com" and replacing it with more emotion and feeling.

Overview:

Love and Other Words is a book about Macy and Elliot who used to be childhood best friends-turned-lovers. It's clear from the beginning that something went wrong in their relationship. Alternating between the present and the past (when they were younger), we get to see them fall in love twice, which was really cute.

Honest thoughts:

This book has the best-friends to lovers trope which is one of my absolute favorites. The trope is really well-done and the chemistry between the characters is so clear and brimming from the moment that they meet. The only thing that I wasn't a huge fan of was how dragged the plot seemed to be. Although I enjoyed reading the tiny little details that defined Macy and Elliot's relationship, I do think that some of it, just a little bit could have been cut out. Other than that, I think that this book is perfect for Colleen Hoover fans because it has all of the chemistry and all of the emotion that her books have. I really enjoyed this book because of the plot and also because of the suspense to know what happened that caused them to drift apart?

Conclusion:

I also think that there are some parallels between this book and People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry because they are both best friends-to-lovers with alternating timelines within them, just this one isn't as lighthearted, and there's a good chance this one will make you teary-eyed. Give this one a read for sure!
